Prostate Biopsy

You have been scheduled for a prostate ultrasound and biopsy. This procedure is being done to further diagnose your prostate condition.

  1.  One (1) to Two (2) hours before the procedure you must use a Fleet’s Enema.
  2.  Take the antibiotic either 2 hours before or the evening before the procedure. You must also take antibiotics for 1 to 2 days after the biopsy.
  3.  You must make an appointment to be seen in the office 7 to 10 days after the biopsy.
  4.  On your return to the office, we will give you the results of the biopsy. It usually takes 5 to 7 days to get the results of the biopsy from the pathologist.
    A. If you experience a temperature of greater than 102, you must call the office, and be prepared to go to the hospital. If you develop a temperature of greater than 100 degrees, you may take some Tylenol. B. If you are unable to urinate after the biopsy, either return to our office is before 5PM Monday thru Friday, or go directly to any emergency room. A Foley catheter will be required. Bleeding in the urine, blood in the stool, or blood in the semen is normal. Blood in the semen may last for 6 to 6 weeks. Large amounts of blood clots in the urine or the stool is abnormal, and you must call our office
